Marvin Luther Cherry, Jr. 73, of Cumming, GA passed away suddenly on October 26th, 2020.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when travel and gathering restrictions due to COVID permit.

Marvin was born on Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL to Marvin Luther Sr. and Jean Cherry in 1947. In 1970 Marvin both proudly graduated from Auburn University, where he was an active brother in Alpha Phi Omega, and married his wife, Jo Ann Shelton. They had recently celebrated 50 years together this past September. Upon graduation, Marvin enlisted in the Army, then transitioning after a few years to the Alabama Army National Guard. Marvin spent tours in both Kosovo and Iraq, ultimately retiring from the Guard in 2008 after 40+ years in the military.

His family and friends could always count on his wonderful stories of Auburn and his time in the military. Both were his extreme passions in life. Saturdays were spent listening to the Auburn announcers on the radio, and watching the Tigers on Mute on the TV. War Eagle!

Marvin is survived by his wife: Jo Ann, son: Marvin III "Tripp" Cherry (Milisa), daughter: Christy Thompson (Jon), brother: Dean, granddaughters: Ruth, Lilli, Evelyn, and Juliet, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, at the family's request, memorials may be given to the Auburn Veterans Resource Center (https://alumniq.auburn.edu/giving/to/cherry).

The family of Marvin wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all health care workers, family, and friend that helped during his illness.
