Jonathan Phillip “Phil” Sanders, born on August 15, 1959 to Horace Grady Sanders and the late Annie Ruth Sanders, peacefully passed away on Friday October 23, 2020 at the age of 61. His wife Kirsten Marietta “Tina” Sanders sat by his side at the Atrium Hospice House in Monroe.

Phil’s educational background afforded him an Associates Degree Of Science in Computer Science from the University of West Georgia; a Bachelor of Arts in Cross-cultural Communications/Missions from Columbia International University (CIU) in SC; and a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language with a minor emphasis on Intercultural Studies also from CIU.

Phil married Tina on December 10, 1988. At the time of his passing, they had been married 31 years. They have two children, a son Ian James Sanders and a daughter Hannah Claire Sanders.

Prior to his illness making it impossible for him to return to work, Phil served as the IT Manager at EDIFICE Inc. in Charlotte. His illness and passing has had a profound impact on his co-workers. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to progressive rock music, watching movies, and learning about both the history of and current technology trends.

Phil had been a member of Church of the Redeemer in Indian Trail. He had a singular desire to serve in the nursery, becoming friends with the children and their parents alike. Many of these young families came to assist Phil and his family during his illness, with children donating and repurposing their toys to meet some of Phil’s physical needs.

Family pets Merry and Pippin, the two miniature pinschers, and James the grey tabby cat sense Phil’s absence, staying close to mom on the couch at the end of each day. Phil is also survived by his sister Linda Barnett and brother Steve Sanders; nephews Jamison Sailors, Russell Sanders, Alan Sanders and niece Jennifer Hammond; adoring in-laws Exe & Lois Bravo and Eric & Kelly Bravo; and his very dedicated friend Stan “Hap” Welty.

Phil will be buried in a private graveside service in the Green Burial Section at Forest Lawn East. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. For more details about his illness, please visit his Caring Bridge site. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service-Weddington Chapel is honored to serve the Sanders family.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Phil's memory to either his church: Church of the Redeemer, 1001 Redeemer Way, Indian Trail, NC 28079 or the GoFundMe site for the family. https://www.gofundme.com/f/let039s-show-the-love-to-the-sanders-family
