Obituary For Paul Donald Bennett

Paul Donald "Don" Bennett, 71, of Tifton, died Saturday (Sept. 8, 2007) at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe officiated with burial following in Tift Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons John David Sumner, Joe Vitrella, Paul Rowell, Andrew Bennett, Geoffrey Bennett and Michael Kirkland were pallbearers.

Members of the Boch Sunday School Class of Tifton First Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

He was born on June 10, 1936 in Manor (Ware Co), the son of Paul L. Bennett and Mildred Cason Bennett, both deceased. He attended the Ware County school system and was raised in the Church of God of Prophecy in Waycross.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Wynelle "Nell" Grupposo.

He was a master craftsman and owner of Bennett's Custom Upholstery in Tifton for more than 20 years. He was a member of Tifton First Baptist Church where he was the teacher of the Boch Sunday School Class until the illness of his wife, Lucille, took him away from this duty. He served in the United States Air Force for seven years and served as president of the Exchange Club of Tifton. He was a past "Exchangite of the Year" and District Director of Georgia Region 9 Exchange Clubs.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Leverett Bennett, of Tifton, formerly of Waycross; three sons, Steve Bennett, of Monroe, Timothy Bennett, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mike Kirkland, of Cecil; three daughters, Donalyn Brown, of Greensboro, S.C., Tina Sumner, of Tifton, and Margie Atkinson, of Tifton; one brother, Kenneth L. Bennett, of Waycross; 12 grandchildren, Michael Kirkland, Misty Archambault, Paul Rowell, Geoffrey Bennett, Melissa Craft, Christy Brown, Joe Vitrella, Lisa Bennett, Brad Brown, John David Sumner, Heather Moore and Andrew Bennett; and 13 great-grandchildren.
