Virginia Nell Oliver left this earth peacefully to be with her Lord on October 27, 2020, at the age of 81 at her home in New Caney, Texas, surrounded by family.

She was born on September 25, 1939, in Vance, Alabama, to Luther Preston Bell, Jr. & Willie Inez Deerman Bell. Her family moved to the Amory, Mississippi, area in 1953. She married Bennie F. Oliver, Jr. on August 24, 1955.

She attended East Amory Baptist Church where she loved working with the young girls in her GMA class. Her greatest joy was singing for her Lord in solos and in the church choir.

She was employed at Amory Garment Plant and then later at Black’s of Amory (Vinegar Bend & Van Atkins) from which she retired.

She moved to New Caney, Texas, in 1999 to be with her daughter and family. She became a member of East River Baptist Church of New Caney where she faithfully attended until she could no longer do so due to physical infirmities.

She is preceded in death by her parents L. P. & Inez Bell, Agnes Shields and her youngest granddaughter, Hannah Elisabeth Hoots.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Oliver Hoots (Roger); six grandchildren, Crystal Nicole Gathercole (James), April Denice Hoots, Rebecca Ann Hoots, Isaac Nathanael “Nathan” Hoots, Rachel Virginia Barfield (Kenny); 6 great-grandchildren, Ethan Ray Gathercole, Brianna Denice Gathercole, Bronson Young Gathercole, Wyatt Preston Gathercole, Gavin Young Barfield and Quintin Young Barfield; two sisters, Barbara Thompson (Wayne), Joyce Finney (Frank); one brother, Ralph Bell (Peggy); former spouse, Bennie Oliver; nieces & nephews, Steve Thompson, David Thompson, Karen Rogers, Frank Carey Finney, Rosemary Davis, Curt Bell; and many great-nieces & nephews.

She will be missed greatly and fondly remembered for her loving kindness and sacrificial giving of herself to family and friends.

Her Memorial Service will be Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at 2:00 pm at East River Baptist Church, New Caney, Texas.
