Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company B, 150th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, on August 25, 1862. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on November 8, 1862, he was with his men was they fought in the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There he was shot in the left leg on the first day of the battle while his regiment was involved in the brutal fighting between the Army of the Potomac's I Corps and the forces of A.P. Hill's Army of Northern Virginia Corps on McPherson Ridge. His leg was amputated, but he died a month later in the Seminary Hospital at Gettysburg.
