A funeral visitation for Rev. Wayne Shelby Young 89, of Farmerville, LA will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home in Farmerville, from 10:00-12:00 pm. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 2:00 pm. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, La. with military honors. Officiating the service will be Bro. Kurt Auger.

Wayne S. Young was born on November 9, 1930 in Batesville, Arkansas and passed away on October 23, 2020 at his residence in Farmerville. Mr. Young retired with 31 years of service from United Gas Pipeline and was an ordained Deacon and Baptist minister for over 20 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmerville in his latter years. He proudly served in the United States Navy being stationed in Yokosuka, Japan in 1954 and served in the Korean War conflict. Wayne enjoyed using chalk and oil in his paintings and loved the outdoors including fishing, hunting, and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Olin Stiles Young and Clarice Arrant Young of Bastrop, LA; In-laws Alton and Louise Harrison Phillips of Oak Grove, LA., brothers-in-law Kenneth ‟Jinky” Phillips, Alton ‟Bo” Phillips, Jr. and Butch Ellard of Bastrop, LA.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 64 years, Joycelyn Phillips Young of Farmerville, LA; daughters, Terri Young Myers of Ringgold, Georgia; Amy Young Whatley and husband Bobby of Rayne, LA; Jennifer Young Wade and husband Stephen of Farmerville, LA; grandchildren, Rhiannon Myers Carmen and husband Jeff; Abby Myers, Shelby Myers O’Donnell and husband Jonathan; Olivia Myers, Christina Whatley Hoffpauir and husband Kurt; Phillip Whatley and wife Shannon; Carson Wayne Whatley; Evan Whatley and wife Abigail; Hunter Venters and wife Marie, Wesley Venters, Dixie Kate Venters, Amelia “Millie” Venters, Zoey Venters, Logan Wade Brady Wade, Drew Wade and Duncan Wade; great-grandchildren, Dawson Hoffpauir, Joy Whatley, Elijah Whatley, and Kaylee Whatley. Sisters: Wanda Young Ellard of Bastrop, LA; Linda Young Bates of Dallas, TX; brother-in-laws: Rodger Phillips and wife Donna of Oak Grove, LA; Joe Pat Phillips and wife Myrtle of Oak Grove, LA; Mike Phillips and wife Paula of Monroe, LA; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Whatley, Carson Whatley, Evan Whatley, Wesley Venters, Logan Wade, Brady Wade, Drew Wade, Kurt Hoffpauir, and Jonathan O’Donnell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Whatley, Stephen Wade, Billy Myers, and Steven Venters.

The family would like to send special thanks for all the kindness, help and support to the staff of Jordan Hospice, Dr. Steven Venters, Donald Shaw, Fred and Nancy Futch, Brannon and Linda White, Mitch and Heather Tucker, Bubba and Penny Kenly and all the men at the Farmerville Fire Department.
