Mr. Fred Lee Armstrong Sr. was born on August 14, 1940 in Humphrey County. He was the seventh child of 10 children were born to Earnest Sr and Amanda R. Butler Armstrong.

Fred was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late Sylestia Clayborne for 55 years. To this union nine children were born. He's proceeded in death by his wife, son (Jeremiah Armstrong), two brothers (Cleveland and Cleotha), two sisters (Clara Taylor and Magnolia Armstrong), and granddaughter (Tanisha Walker).

He confessed Christ at an early age as a member of Wolf Lake Baptist Church in Humphrey County. Upon coming to Jackson, he joined Cherry Grove M.B. Church.

Fred loved his wife and sons. He believed as the head of house that it was his responsibility to provide for his family emotionally and financially. To accomplish this he would work three to four jobs at a time. He was an employee of Illinois Central Gulf Railroad until his medical disability prohibited him from working. Although he had issue of his own this did not hinder him from being a loving and caring husband to his wife (Sylestia better known as RED) who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Always a constant and loving caregiver until her death.

He was blessed with a passion for gardening, sometimes known as Mr. Green Thumbs, sharing his crops with friends and family alike. Freely giving and freely receiving lasting friendships that last a life time.

He leaves to cherish his memory eight sons Larona (Diane) of Oceanside, Ca, Barry (Angela) Armstrong and Anthony (Tabatha) Armstrong of Warner Robbins, GA, Fred Lee Armstrong, JR of Chicago, IL, Alton (Estella) Armstrong of St. Louis, MO, Jerry (Felicia) Armstrong, Darren (Crystal) Armstrong Sr., Gaffery (Calandra) of Jackson, MS. Two brothers Earnest Sr., Reverend Herman Armstrong (Carrie), Three sisters Bernice Killongsworth, Delores Little and Loretha Armstrong. Twenty- eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, along with host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
