Paul J. Watson, 91, of Lumberport passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the home of his granddaughter in Jane Lew. He was born August 24, 1929 in Sardis a son of the late Paul and Blanche Wolfe Watson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth “Bettie” Boggess Watson whom he married on July 1, 1950.
He is survived by his daughter, Shandra M. Muscar of Hepzibah; his brother, Donald “Buzzy” Watson of Shinnston; his sister, Shirley Simmons of Shinnston; his grandchildren, Felicia Posey and her husband Shane of Jane Lew; Christian D. Hedrick; Farrah J. Hedrick; Brandon J. Davis; Reannah Muscar; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; as well as his son-in-law, James E. Davis; and his dear friend, Frances Carothers.
In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon Watson – Davis; and his son, Paul A. Watson.
Paul graduated from Shinnston High School and West Virginia Business College. He retired from LP Gas Company and Mine Belt Service. Paul was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church. He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason with Clarksburg Lodge #155 and was a member of the Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg. Paul always enjoyed being a Shriner and was very active in organizing parades and loved to help with the yearly Shriner Circus in Charleston. He was an avid supporter of local youth scholarships. Paul was also a member of the Lumberport Lions Club and would volunteer at the Lions Club Cemetery during holidays to direct families to the graves of their loved ones.
The family will receive friends at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Thursday from 3-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 am with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lions Club Cemetery in Lumberport.
