He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver "Cub" Dawes Joyner and Lois Blanche Shearin Joyner; paternal grandparents, Charlie Dawes Joyner and Della Lindsey Joyner; maternal grandparents, Bettie Harper Shearin and Lucious Jasper Shearin; special aunt and uncle, Lonnie Perry Shearin and Mary Gladys Shearin; and his devoted farm dog, Dixie.
Gerald is survived by his loving family that includes his wife of 46 years, Inge Aycock Joyner; son, William Dawes (Billy) Joyner wife: Kristen Britt Joyner of Elm City; grandchildren, Mariah Anastasia Crawford of Temple, TX, Hunter Dawes Joyner (Katelyn) of Sharpsburg, Avery Campbell Britt, and Joseph Ridge Joyner, both of Elm City; sister, Vickie Joyner Glover, (Billy Bob)of Dortches; special niece, Camilla "Cammy" Cooley Knightlinger (Roger) of Spring Hope; special nephews, Christopher "Chris" Craig Cooley (Tabitha) of Rocky Mount, and Nathan Mark Worsley (Tracy) of Rocky Mount; special aunt, Charlotte Shearin of Nashville; best friend, William Jones (Patricia); special friend, Shepard Inscoe (Shelby) of Rocky Mount; along with a host of family friends and other relatives.
