David J. Crook was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 6, 1937, the son of Dr. Carleton W. and Madeline B. (Handy) Crook.

He attended Boston schools and graduated from Christian High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University and a Masters degree from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with honors from both schools. While at The Wharton School, he was a member of the business honor society - Beta Gamma Sigma.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and achieved the rank of captain.

His professional career included employment at Arthur Anderson in Boston; Components Inc. in Biddeford, Maine; and Crook and Associates, Certified Public Accountants in Saco.

He was a juried member and treasurer of the Art Guild of the Kennebunks. He was awarded Best of Show for his photography at the Art Guild of the Kennebunks' exhibitions in August 2012 and June 2013. He also received first prize for his cover photo from the Portland Press Herald in "Vacation Maine."

He was chairman of the Kennebunk Budget Board; and treasurer of the Brick Store Museum, Sea Road Church and Community Outreach Services, Inc. all of Kennebunk.

He married Janet Hames and they had three children: Kimberly, Jonathan and Daniel.

He died on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.

He was survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Crook, of Kennebunk; son Daniel and his wife Suree Crook of Arundel; daughter Kimberly Crook of Kennebunk; daughter- in- law Katheryn Henning Crook of Kennebunk; sister Marilyn Avery of New Boston, New Hampshire; granddaughter Grace and grandson Tyler. He is predeceased by his son Jonathan David Crook and two brothers, Carleton L. and Richard W. Crook.
