Henry W. Turner, 93, of Rushville, IL passed away at 1:58 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2020 at his residence. He was born on February 7, 1927 in Woodstock Township, Schuyler Co., IL a son of the late George & Vurnice Bedenbender Turner. The story was that the doctor was pulled to the house by horses through the mud in the morning and left by driving over frozen ruts in the afternoon of his birth. He married Virdella Louise Watts on November 21, 1948 in Mt. Sterling, IL. She preceded him in death on February 1, 1999. He is survived by (2) daughters; Denise Pindell & husband Dale, Sue Richardson all of Rushville, IL, (3) granddogs; Phoebe, Sydney & Betsey, (2) sister-in-laws; Dee Wright of Thermal, CA, Carol Phillips of Rushville, IL, (1) brother-in-law; Harold Watts of Plainville, IL, numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by (2) sisters; Vergie Lue Diseron, Marie Turner, (1) infant brother; Lewis Everett Turner. He attended rural Schuyler Co grade schools and graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1948. He left home at 14 to see the world, working for Jess Thompson and Lloyd Theater. He then joined the Navy in 1945 and trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Facility. He went on to serve as an Electrician’s Mate aboard the USS Puget Sound. He was a movie projection operator on the ship and saw Japan after the bombing. He returned home to Schuyler in 1946 where he went to Rushville High School and graduated with the class of 1948. He worked for Miller Equipment, Quinn’s Service, Mickelberry’s Packing Plant and Peabody Key Shop, He was a Federal Licensed Surface Mine Electrician for Amax Sunspot Mine in Vermont, IL and Cedar Creek and Triad mines in Camden, IL. He retired in 1998 and then returned to work in 1999 for Rushville Truck Lines. He was a self employed refrigeration, machinist, welder/fabricator. He valued hard work above all else and would gladly train others, including his daughters. His favorite times were sharing a meal of noodles or ham & beans after spending a day in his garage. He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4 for 65 years, United Mine Workers of America and Operating Engineers. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at Rushville City Cemetery with Mr. David Haney officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 & an U.S. Navy honor detail. Interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Worthington Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Cass-Schuyler Hospice or Schuyler Humane Society.
