A native of Canton, MS and born on Christmas Eve 1932, he was the son of the late Joe Maxwell Owen and the late Marie Farr Owen Reid. He attended Madison High School where upon his 18th birthday was immediately sent to war in Korea where he dutifully and honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was allowed time to return home and walk with his high school graduating class. In his younger days, he was a sports car enthusiast and loved to race cars. He was a very talented and skilled machinist and mechanic. He loved his family and took good care of them. He will be missed dearly by his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Billie “Kitty” Owen, who died in 2019; and a granddaughter, Sandra Puckett.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky Thaggard, of Madden, MS and John Owen, of Jackson; daughters, Sherry Humphrey (Bob), of Huntsville, AL and Tamara Puckett, of Jackson; grandchildren: John Dean Puckett, Regan Humphrey, Will Humphrey, Dakota Killingsworth, Trace Thaggard, and Storm Owen; brother, Joe Maxwell; sister, Loretta Newton; and a host of other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Montgomery Cemetery in Madison, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital of Mississippi, 2500 N State St, Jackson, MS 39216 or by visiting www.friendsofch.org/give or made to a favorite charity.
