David "Henry" Beheler also known as D. H. Beheler was born June 12, 1843, in Cleveland County, NC. He was the son of Jacob "Jake" Beheler and Polly Downey Beheler.

Henry enlisted on November 27, 1861, in Columbia, SC with the SC 17th Regiment Infantry Company F as a Private and served under Colonel J.S. Preston. During the war, Henry was on a list of casualties at the Battle of Manassas between August 10 and September 17, 1862. He was also listed as a patient at the 1st Mississippi C.S.A. Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi from July 6-8 1863. Henry was paroled on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House in VA.

After being paroled, Henry came back to Rutherford County, NC, and married Elizabeth Beheler Holland. He was a tenant farmer and also worked at Cliffside Mills. Henry and Elizabeth also lived in Cherokee and Spartanburg County in SC. They had four children, two sons John David Beheler, 1875 - 1923. Son, William "Vedo" Beheler, 1885-1940. Two daughters Luveney Beheler Bolton, 1879 -1943, and Eva Beheler Parris, 1887- 1944. All four children of Henry and Elizabeth are buried at State Line Baptist Church in Cherokee County, SC. Henry's wife Elizabeth passed away in 1916 and is buried at High Shoal Baptist Church in Rutherford County, NC.

After the war, Henry enjoyed attending Confederate Reunions across the South with his friends and cousins who also served in the war.

In 1919, Henry married Frances "Frankie" Scruggs McCraw in Rutherford County, NC in 1919. Henry and Frankie along with Frankie's children Clementine and Samuel lived in Cliffside, NC. Henry passed away at home in Cliffside, NC on September 8, 1923. Henry is buried at High Shoal Baptist Church with his first wife Elizabeth. Frankie passed away in 1931 in Cleveland County, NC, and is buried with her first husband, Confederate Veteran Willis McCraw, and their children Clementine McCraw, Samuel McCraw, and Lona McCraw Grant at Goodes Creek Baptist Church in Rutherford County, NC.
