Calvin was born May 2, 1935 to Clark Calvin Matthews and Sara Annie McKinney Matthews. He was a US Army veteran serving 2 ½ years. Calvin worked for FCX Egg Division in Charlotte, NC. He left the company after becoming disabled.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbra Keith Matthews; his children, Calvin Reid II, Alan Mark (Marie) ; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Gracie, Allen, Aileen and Carter; sisters, Bertha Rappe , Sara May, Norma Ward, Mary Clark, And Patricia Duncan.
Calvin is predeceased by his mother, Sara Annie McKinney Matthews; Father, Clark Calvin Matthews; brother, Edgar Matthews; sister, Judy Allen, Evelyn Lichte, Josie May McKinney, and Sadie Barker.
Calvin as a devoted husband cared for his wife Barbra for many years, always looking after her needs. He loved spending time outdoors riding his best friend, fur baby, Scruffy on his wheel chair. Calvin loved hunting, fishing, woodwork, and especially spending time with his family. Calvin was well known for his gardening skills. He grew vegetables, flowers, and shrubs. Calvin always had the best vegetables which he loved sharing with family, friends, and neighbors.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Peggy Cornelius who has been a loving caretaker for Calvin and Barbara.
Visitation for immediate family will be 10:00 – 10:45 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services 16901 Old Statesville Road Huntersville, NC 28078
Graveside service for Calvin will be held at Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Delwood Street, Huntersville NC 28078 on October 27, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
In Lieu of flowers, family request donations made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 11724 Asbury Chapel Rd Huntersville, NC 28078.
