Darrell Ross Williams, 57, of Grand Lake passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 in a New Orleans hospital.
Mr. Williams was born in Lafayette, LA, lived his youngest years in Sulphur and started his Freshman year at South Cameron High School. He was a graduate of South Cameron and McNeese State University where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He began his 32-year career with the Cameron Parish Police Jury shortly after graduation and was planning to retire to fulfill his elected position as the Assessor for Cameron Parish. He was a board member of the Organization of Parish Administrative Officials and an active member of the Cameron Lions Club. Mr. Williams leaves a legacy to athletics in the Grand Lake community as he coached many children in basketball, baseball, softball, and football over many years. He enthusiastically followed countless sporting events for his children. He was involved in Grand Lake Little Dibblers, was instrumental in helping bring a football program to Grand Lake and was a referee for LHSAA High School Football for more than fifteen years. He was also an avid LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints fan and proudly wore their colors especially when out of state. His greatest joy was his family, date nights with his daughter, golfing with his boys, spending time with his loving wife and attending countless concerts with all of them, as well as extended family. Mr. Williams found joy and brought joy in everything and to everyone. He will be most remembered as selfless, always doing for others first and for his boisterous laughter. He will be greatly missed and will be honored Thursday night at the Grand Lake football game with everyone wearing Orange in support of his recent diagnosis of Leukemia.
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of twenty eight years, Helen Myers Williams of Grand Lake, three children, Derek Trey Williams and wife Mary of Lake Charles, Erica Lauren Williams and Ethan Blake Williams, both of Grand Lake; four siblings, Cynthia Frederick of Katy, TX, Gayle Lynn Ravia and husband Raymond of Sulphur, James David Williams and wife Shandra of Katy, TX and Anita Darlene Morrow and husband Doug of Conroe, TX; father and mother-in-law, Forest Myers, Jr. and Frankie Stewart Myers and many nieces, nephews and several special friends. He also leaves his influence in the hearts of numerous lives he touched in Cameron Parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer James Williams and Catherine Jewel Williams and his nephew, Chad Morrow.
Funeral services will be held at Grand Lake High School Gymnasium Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Ron Johnson will officiate with special words being provided by Derek Williams and Ryan Bourriaque. Interment will follow in Sweetlake-Grandlake cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the gym.
