PA State Senator. Samuel J. Packer was born in Pikeland Twp., Chester County, Pennsylvania, March 23, 1799, the son of Amos and Elizabeth (Jones) Packer; educated in tuition schools; printer's apprentice at Bellefonte, Centre County; established the Inquirer at Sunbury, Northumberland County in 1820; studied law and was admitted to the Northumberland County bar in 1823. He married Rachel Jane Black in 1823 and died October 20, 1834, Northumberland County. He was a member of the Anti-Mason Party.Samuel Jones Packer was the 7th child of Amos and Elizabeth (Jones) Packer. He was the husband of Rachel (Black) Packer.
