George Robert Sutton, 81-year-old long time Vinita resident and barber, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in Vinita. He was born on January 20, 1939 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to L. L. “Spike” and Cherokee Virginia (Christie) Sutton. George graduated from Barber School in Amarillo, Texas. He married Janet Sturm on April 29, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri. The moved to Vinita in 1965, and George barbered in the Vinita Hotel with Paul Staubus several years before going out on his own, he continued working until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vinita, the Archery Club, coached little league and women’s softball over the years. George was a great supporter and big fan of Vinita Hornets Sports Teams. He was also a member of the Cherokee Nation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet in 2015 and a sister, Lydia Coleman.
The family includes; his son’s, Lance Sutton and wife Cheri of Talala, Nick Sutton and wife Jami of Vinita, grandchildren, Cody Sutton (Megan), Kyndal and Conner Sutton, Laci and Chase Sutton, his sister, Nettie Detherage and husband Tom of Fairland and a brother in-law, Bob Coleman of Waco, Texas.
