Joe Meador, 73, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on October 21, 2020, peacefully in his sleep, from Lewy-Body Dementia.
Visitation will be 4pm – 8pm on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Community Church in Hendersonville, TN with Tom Koentop, Shepherd at Hendersonville Community Church, officiating.
Family–only burial will follow, at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Hendersonville Funeral Home.
Joe Meador was born in Petroleum, KY to Ralph Meador and Beatrice (Rather) Meador on January 25, 1947. He graduated from Allen County High School in Scottsville, KY and later was a graduate from Draughon’s Business College in Nashville, TN, with a Degree in Business Management and Administration. While attending Draughon’s Business College, Joe began working for the Federal Reserve Bank in Nashville, TN, where he met his future wife, Sally Wise.
Joe also worked at Hewgley’s Music Shop in Nashville, TN. He then partnered with co-owner Jim Vantrease, to form Sumner County Music Center, in Gallatin, TN. Joe joined group Glass Hammer, who opened up for Ricky Nelson and for Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, playing in the southeast U.S.
Joe went on the become Road Manager (and then Manager) of Ronnie McDowell for 25 years. Joe’s mentor, Buddy Killen, along with Joe and Ronnie McDowell, formed Killen Entertainment Group, under which Ronnie McDowell and group Six Shooter were managed. Later, expanding to Grand Entertainment Group, where Joe was CEO/President, starting three publishing companies affiliated with BMl, ASCAP and SESAC.
Joe Meador co-wrote with George Strait, awarded by BMl, for #1 U.S. Billboard Song of the Year and Joe also co-wrote #1 RPM Canadian Song of the Year with Ronnie McDowell, as an active member of the Country Music Association/CMA.
Joe later inducted James Brown into the South Carolina Hall of Fame which was one of the proudest moments of his life. Joe co-produced “Dixie Rose”, which was awarded as the Best SXSW Documentary at Telluride, Colorado Indie Fest and awarded Best Directory for Documentary in New York. “Dixie Rose” was also honored at several International Independent Film and Video Festivals including Anchorage, Alaska International Film Festival, Time Warner West Valley Indie Fest and Lake Forest Film Festival.
Joe later co-authored The Genuine Elvis: Photos and Untold Stories about the King, which had rave reviews by American Bandstand legend Dick Clark.

Joe is also survived by his cousin Patti (Graves) Pearson and her husband Wendell Pearson, along with their two children, Bradley Pearson and Shelley Pearson.
Pallbearers will be Bill Conn, Danny Gann, Rick Judkins, Larry Leath, Don Lee and Jerry Newman with Honorary Pallbearer Bill Flannery.
