Stanley Bruce Burns was born on August 24, 1926, to Bruce Daniel Burns and Murl Edwards Burns. He died peacefully on October 22, 2020, surrounded by his family in his home on the same property he lived most of his life. After graduating from high school, Stanley joined the Navy and served during WWII. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled in the University of Florida for one semester. He returned to Quincy and started his first career with the Quincy State Bank, where he retired in 1984 as President. Not being one to sit around, Stanley started a second career with the Gadsden County Clerk of the Court where he worked for 27 years, retiring at age 91.

Stanley met his wife Rose while she was a nurse intern at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. They married in 1953 and had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

He enjoyed playing trumpet in the Harry Shepherd band during the 1950's and 1960's, and kept playing it for many years after the band was no longer together. Some of his favorite times were outings in his boat on the Apalachicola river with his many friends and family. Stanley loved people and had a heart for helping people. It's been said in recent days that Stanley helped out many people in Gadsden County through the years. He also dearly loved Centenary United Methodist Church where he was a life-long member.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Rose, daughters Lelia Hauversburk (Danny) and Harriet Moore (Buddy), granddaughters Roseanna Grimsley (Greg) and Ryann Moore, one great granddaughter, Paisley Grimsley, a great grandson due to arrive in January 2021, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters Hazel Nelson and June Gay (Jerry). He was predeceased by his parents, sister Shirley Burns, brother Chuck Burns and brother-in-law, Larry Nelson.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 25, 2020, at 3:00 PM at Sunny Dell Cemetery in Gretna, FL.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, Florida, is in charge of arrangements.
