Marvin Murel Richardson, Jr.
February 24, 1946 - October 02, 2020

Marvin Murel Richardson, Jr., departed this life on October 2, 2020, at the VA Home in Cameron, MO., after a lengthy illness.

He was born February 24, 1946 in Sikeston, MO to Marvin Murel Richardson, Sr. and Fannie Mae ((Watkins) Richardson.

During his childhood and teenage years, the family worked in the agriculture fields during growing seasons. Marvin spent time playing with his siblings and enjoying time with grandparents and other family members. Marvin spent many summers working in the cotton fields, both roguing and picking cotton. He shared stories about many times the sacks of cotton were bigger than he was, how he and his brothers and sisters had to have help getting them picked up. He also spoke of times spent going rabbit hunting with his dad and grandfather. Playing and rough housing with brothers were also some of the fond memories Marvin shared. He and his brother, Bobbie were especially close when growing up.

Marvin spent his junior and senior year in Morehouse going to school while fending for himself. His family moved on and Marvin wanted to finish school at Morehouse. He stayed with an older lady and did many odd jobs around town to pay for his clothes and keep. It was a rough time, abut it was a time when Marvin learned that he would have to stand on his own two feet and depend on himself. During this time, it was a special treat for him to go visit his grandparents on Sunday for dinner. Marvin graduated Morehouse, MO High School in 1954 and joined the Navy in July following graduation. While serving in the Navy, Marvin lost his Mother and five of his younger siblings in a car accident.

In 1972, he married Alpha Loraine "Lorrie" Reid in Pampa, TX. They had been pen pals for two years while he was overseas and in 6 short days they decided to be married. They were never blessed with children. They were married 34 years. After faithfully taking care of Lorrie during her lengthy illness, he lost her in 2004. During Marvin's many years living in Liberal, KS., he attended First Southern Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and attended Promise Keepers. He always loved attending Church and Bible Study.

Marvin also served in the Army for six years and some of his fondest memories are of the four years he spent at Fort Richardson in Alaska. One of his stories is of the morning when he woke up to have a moose with its head in the window in his apartment. He never complained about the snow in Alaska, but did say that he was glad when he got back in the lower 48 states where it was a bit warmer.

On January 27, 2006, Marvin was united in marriage to Carolyn Kirkham (Emerson) in ELkhart, KS. They lived in OK until 2009 when they moved to Missouri to be closer to Carolyn's aging parents. During their marriage, Marvin has always been a man of deep faith which was apparent to all he met. Marvin and Carolyn's first date was to attend a bible study on a Wednesday night and they continued to find church a fulfilling part of their life, no matter where they lived.

Sometimes Marvin would say things that seemed totally out of context and it took a while to figure out that he was kidding and then the joke usually was on you. He totally enjoyed it when you got the joke and acknowledged that he got you. It was not often that you could get even, but there are pictures that prove that even he could act silly and put on an Easter basket for a hat. Marvin had a wry sense of humor and it will be missed.

Marvin worked in many different manufacturing jobs through the years, working as a welder's helper, truck driver, manufacturing, the steel industry, working 22 years for National Beef in Liberal, KS., maintenance for Advance Foods in Enid, OK and for Walmart in Bethany, where worked from 2009 to 2016.

Marvin leaves behind his beloved wife: Carolyn Richardson, Bethany; Sister: Linda Anderson, Attica, IN; Brother: Herbert (Sarah) Watkins, Dexter, MO; Step-children: Denise Owens, OK, Kristina Wears (Mark Voth), Garden City, KS, Joy (Kevin) Cheatum, Wichita, KS; step-grandchildren: Alexis Grotts, Aaron Owens, Alesha Owens, Adam Owens, Donnie Cheatum, Austin Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Shelby Wears and Saleen Wears; 12 step-great grandchildren. A host of loving nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Bethany, MO., inurnment will following at Cedar Hill Cemetey with military honors.
