Nick George Nicholas, age 85, of Loveland, OH, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Nick was born in Irwin, PA to George and Ann Nicholas on March 18, 1935. Growing up and attending school in Irwin, Nick learned a solid work ethic from his parents in their restaurant, The Sugar Bowl. After graduating high school, Nick went on to Pitt University to study Industrial Engineering and served in the Army and Reserves. While attending a Greek Social event in February 1958, Nick met the love of his life, and on September 14, 1958, he married Helen Monezis in Weirton, WV. Nick completed his studies at Pitt and graduated with a B.S. Industrial Engineering degree. He started a career at Weirton Steel, and spent his spare time working at his father-in-law’s bakery, The Royal Pastry.

He and Helen began their family in Weirton. In 1967, a new career opportunity relocated him and his family to New Lenox, IL. There Nick began his career at E.J. & E. Railway in Joliet, IL and remained there until his retirement in 1994. Nick’s family was his priority and he made many sacrifices so they were always a well taken care of family. The work ethic Nick had learned as a child, he demonstrated as an adult and was an example for his family to follow.

His love and passion for his family was followed by his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nick cheered them on from one of the worst teams in the NFL to one of the best. As a Sigma Pi Fraternity Alumni, Nick kept in touch with many of his fraternity brothers throughout the years. Nick had fond memories of his fraternity life, and enjoyed sharing the stories. Nick was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church serving in different capacities including Greek Festival Chairman, Treasurer and President of his local AHEPA chapter.

Nick and Helen relocated to Loveland, OH in 1996 following their children as they had relocated to Cincinnati over the years. Nick participated in his children’s and grand children’s events such as soccer and football games, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and graduations. Nick was very proud of his family and their accomplishments, and he would be happy to talk with you about them.

Nick is preceded in death by his father George, mother Ann (Pantages) and his younger brother Peter Eugene. Nick is survived by his wife Helen (Monezis) of 62 years, sons George (Eugenia), Eugene (Cindy), Dean (Vonda), Nick, daughter Julie, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
