James 'Jimmy' Mulvaney, 92
James V. Mulvaney, a lifelong Staten Islander, passed away suddenly on July 17, 2018, in the Fountainview Rehabilitation Care Center in Lakewood, N.J. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.
James worked in U.S. government positions at Fort Wadsworth and the Quarantine Station before retiring from the Governor's Island ferry boats in 1982.
During World War II James was a member of the 417th Regimental Combat Team who received the Bronze Star and Battle Honors of Distinction for their successful missions at the Siegfried Line and Sauer River in Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was an active member of the VFW Post 7172; H&S Cichon Post and an "Honorary" member of the Marine Corps League. An avid sportsman, Jimmy enjoyed decades of hunting and fishing trips in upstate New York.
James was believed to be the longest and oldest living recipient of a kidney transplant on the planet having survived the operation more than 45 years ago.
James was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Ann, who passed in 1955 and his former wife, the late Grace Mulvaney. James is survived by a daughter, Marylou Mulvaney; a son, James; three grandchildren andtwo great-grandchildren, and his brother, Gerald Mulvaney.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, July 29, from 2 to 6 p.m. with a Catholic Blessing on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Harmon Funeral Home prior to interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island.
