Joseph G. Wood, 86, of Pleasant Street, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
He was born in Altona on March 15, 1934 the son of Joseph and Melinda (Vien-Cumm) Wood.
Joseph served in the United States Army from 1955-1958.
He married Agnes LaPier on May 24, 1955 at St. Louis de Francis Church in Sciota.
Joseph retired as Deputy Superintendent of Security from Clinton Correctional Facility after 43 years of service.
He was a proud member of the NRA and Handsome Pond Hunting Club.
Joseph enjoyed hunting whitetail deer and fishing. He was an avid Yankee fan trying never to miss a game. In his later years he spent many hours on his John Deer Mower attending to several lawns.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Wood and his wife, Cheryl of Saranac and Mark Wood and his wife, Novia-Lee of Dannemora; daughter, Deborah Hammond of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Corey Fehlner, Ryan LaVarnway, Travis LaVarnway, Justin LaVarnway, Danna-Lynn Mintz, Kevin Wood, Hannah Warner and Cody Wood; nine great-grandchildren; life long companion, Lucinda Goddeau and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Agnes, daughter, Darlene, brothers, Melvin Wood and Emmett Wood and sisters, Vivian Jubert, Margaret Quesnel, Gladys Lecari, Helen McDowell and Jane Quesnel.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 4 to 6 pm at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. Due to Covid-19 a private funeral service for family will follow in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dannemora.
