Rachel was born on May 17, 1942 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Paul and Ruby Davis.
Rachel ended up being raised by her grandparents and graduated from Inola High School. After graduating Rachel proudly joined the Navy before being honorably discharged in August 1962.
Rachel had a truly genuine heart. She loved people and particularly enjoyed children. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so especially precious to her. She took pride in what she did to help the kids at “her” elementary school in Geary, Oklahoma. She kept their school clean, well-stocked and ready for the children who attended there. They, in turn, loved “Ms. Rachel.”
Rachel had a unique passion for garage sales. She and her friends spent many wonderful hours together. They were always looking for the greatest bargain, but their time together was probably the greatest gift.
Later in life Rachel would go on to meet James, her future husband, and many dear friends at the Bethel Church Senior Center. Rachel enjoyed being with James and the companionship they shared. Church was the foundation of their relationship. The two of them attended church together at Bethel Church of Choctaw.
Rachel is survived by her husband James Avery of Choctaw, Oklahoma; children Lynn and husband Gene Coley of Paducah, Kentucky and Donna and husband David Hudson of Choctaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren Annica Canady, Ariel Canady, Justin and Jessie Kennedy, Will Coley, Seth and Cassie Coley and Sarah Coley; great-grandchildren Hunter, Diesel, Easton, Cooper, Ava Klaire and Oliver James; step-siblings Oscar Krigbaum Jr. of Garnett, Kansas, Pearl Davis of Hinton, Oklahoma and Clifford Krigbaum of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; numerous other friends, family and Sassy, James and Rachel’s dog, fondly referred to as “their girl.”
Rachel’s daughters, Lynn and Donna remember her frequently singing Que Sera, Sera as they were growing up. She was fun loving and accepted “whatever will be, will be” Rachel lived life enthusiastically. She loved the Lord completely. She enjoyed people immensely and she will be deeply missed.
