MIDDLEFIELD — Darrell Leroy Phillips (aka “Papa”), 85, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020.

He was born in Mecca, the son of Milton and Marjorie Phillips (nee King). Married Jan. 7, 1956, he was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Nesterak) for almost 65 years. He was the loving father of Darlene Podboy (Gary), Debbie Manfredi (John) and Denise Barnhart (Jeff); beloved grandfather of Derek Podboy (Whitney), Kristen Ross (Jim), Devin Podboy (Katie), Angela Manfredi, Ryan Manfredi and Brandon Barnhart; dear great-grandfather of Dawson Podboy, Cali Ross, Henry Podboy and Hunter Podboy; brother of Milton Jr. (deceased), Mavis (aka Sis), Joyce and Merle; and friend of many, especially Buffy, his dog.

Darrell proudly served his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force. He retired from Flambeau Products in Middlefield in 1996 after 39 years, the last few years as supervisor of the machine shop.

Darrell enjoyed traveling with his family, woodworking, fishing, supporting Cleveland sports teams, and Sunday dinners with his family.

A private service was held at Sly Family Funeral Home, followed by burial in Middlefield Cemetery.
