He was educated in the Mazon area where his family moved to during his youth. He served as a fireman in the U.S. Navy from March 3, 1945 and was honorably discharged on May 1, 1948. He served on the USNB 3002, USS LST 623, USS LCI 424, and USS ATA 176 and was awarded the Victory Medal WWII, the Asiatic Pacific, American Theatre and Good Conduct Ribbons. He was married to Virginia Weston on October 27, 1950.
Jim retired from DuPont Seneca April 30, 1985, after 36 years of service. He joined the company in 1948 as a powder line operator in the explosives unit and retired as a supervisor in the Prill Unit. He was a proud and conscientious worker. He enjoyed his retirement years boating and enjoying his family. He loved working with all of his numerous tools over the years building a playhouse for his daughters that they will never forget and then another one for his granddaughter. He loved his cars, especially his yellow Mustang convertible.
He is survived by his daughters: Lanee Walsh of Louisville, KY, Lorree Harty of Monticello, IL, stepdaughter, Robin Ferri (Enrico) of Morris, and stepson, Rick Weston of Nashville, TN; four granddaughters: Nichol (Jason) Warrick, Marcelle Ferri, Rebecca Walsh (Jake Kleinfeldt), Meghan (Evan) Gossett; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Sandra in infancy; his three brothers, Charles, Larry, and Andrew, Jr. in infancy; and longtime companion, Doretta Hansen.
Private family graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Mazon Brookside Cemetery with military honors presented by the Mazon American Legion Honor Guard.
