Son of Robert and Nancy Kent Marsh. Married Rhoda Clay, 24 Aug 1854 in Decatur County, Georgia. They had 5 children: John R, Rhoda Angeline, Amanda Jane, Charles Edgar and Amelia Nettie.

He enlisted in Company B, 6th Florida Infantry at Rico's Bluff, Florida as a private on 10 May 1862 and died of disease in Knoxville, Tennessee on 10 Oct 1862 according to his service records.
