Harold J. De Sotel, 63, of 3011 D Ave, NE, died Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 27, 1923, at Greeley, he married Betty Kirstein on Aug. 6, 1977, at Cedar Rapids. He farmed in the Troy Mills, Volga and Strawberry Point areas, was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church for 12 years and. was a volunteer worker for the Linn County Council on Aging.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Karen Tate and Theresa De Sotel, both of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Sackett of Vinton and Caroll Wilson of Walker; a son, Tom De Sotel of Keystone; a stepdaughter, Shirley Elliott of Hiawatha; a stepson, James Dauber of Coralville; six brothers, Robert of Central City, Merle of Independence, Roy of North Carolina, Arthur and Lawrence, both of Cedar Rapids, and Richard of Marion; 17 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday. Turner Chapel East, by the Rev. Jack Hooten of Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, friends may call at Turner Chapel East from noon until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1:25 p.m. Friday. The casket will not be reopened following the service. A memorial fund has been established.
