Donald Abbott Parrish, 88, of Tampa, passed away peacefully December 15, 2018. He was born in Tampa on April 3, 1930. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Lucile; his brother, Ben; and niece, Wendy.After graduating from Hillsborough High School in 1948 he joined the USAF and retired honorably in 1969 at the rank of SMSgt. Among his many awards was the Air Force Commendation medal and the Bronze Star medal. He earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha in 1964. In 1965 he won both the Honor Graduate and Academic Achievement Awards at the Second Air Force Non-commissioned Officers Academy. From 1969 to1993 he worked for the State of Florida as a Probation and Parole Officer, retiring as a Supervisor III and Office Manager. He was the first Supervisor for the state run Pretrial Intervention Program started in 1972 and was often called the "Dean" of Pretrial. He earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Florida in 1974. Don traveled the world with friends and family. He had an unforgettable sense of humor. He loved to read, cook, garden, watch old movies and tell stories and jokes. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Nancy; his former wife and dear friend, Nell; six children, Michael (Bonnie), Timothy, Donna Ludwig (Mike), Benjamin, Joseph (Grace), and Elizabeth Anderson (Mike); nine grandchildren, Christina, Kimberly, Caitlin, Jordan, Ethan, Tristan, Fernando,Rachel, Georgia; eight great-grandchildren; and a niece, Marie; and two nephews, Sam and Mark. Don had many friends and will be greatly missed. A funeral Mass will be held January 12, 2 pm at Christ The King Catholic Church, Tampa.
