Jo Ann Payne, age 78, of Lake Village, AR died Monday, October 19, 2020, at home. She was born September 23, 1942, in Wilmot, AR to the late Sidney Thomas and the late Etha Ella (Standridge) Lamb. Sister Jo Ann graduated from Lake Village High School in 1961 and was married the same year to L.D. Payne.

She was a homemaker and one who loved to work in her flowers and yard. For 36 years she was a pastor’s wife until her husband’s death. She was the piano player and Sunday school teacher at numerous churches. She loved to cook and have people gather together around the table to visit, she always tried to feed you if you stopped by. Sweet tea, coffee, cornbread, pinto beans, turnip greens, and dessert were her specialties. She has felt the loss of children, a son and a daughter, which changed her life forever. She loved her grandchildren and said that their laughter always made her happy. She passed away believing that Jesus Christ was Her Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed by her family, church family, and friends.

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband L.D. Payne; son Thomas Payne, and Daughter Sarah Jo Payne.

She is survived by two sons: Phillip (Celesta) Payne of Lake Village, AR; John Mark (Denise) Payne of Bella vista, AR; two brothers; Jimmy (Brenda) Lamb of Watson, AR; William Lamb of Mississippi; one sister Mary Eva (Danny) Rasmussen of Conway, AR; six grandchildren Jeremiah Payne, Amanda Payne, Laura Payne, Priscilla Deaton, Matthew Zeno, Alysa Sackett; and 4 great-grandchildren; Benjamin Payne, Emily Payne, Abigail Payne, and Hannah Payne.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 21st from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 11:00 am with Pastor Phillip Payne and Ronnie Garrett officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lake Village, AR directly after service.
