Richard Wayne "Gomer" Pyle, 70, of Roanoke passed away Friday, October 16, 2020, at his home. He was born September 13, 1950, in Decatur to Robert and Frieda (Nussbaum) Pyle. He was married December 19, 1998, to Gayle Maxwell in Delphi.
He was a 1969 graduate of South Adams High School and served in the National Guard. He worked at International Harvester then as a truck driver for USF Holland for 25 years, retiring in 2012. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and scuba diving, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
He is survived by his father of Berne; his wife of Roanoke; son, Kavan Pyle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Betty (Jerry) Burke and Carolyn (Jim) Moore of Berne; brother, David (Cindy) Pyle of Berne; mother-in-law, Rachel Maxwell of Lafayette; three brothers-in-law, Chuck (Debbie) Maxwell of Rossville, Illinois; Steven Maxwell and Russell (Dianna) Maxwell both of Delphi; two sisters-in-law, Rita (Ron) Drew of Lafayette; and Peggy (Ron) Holt of Delphi.
His was preceded in death by his mother; son, Jeffrey Pyle; and father-in-law, Perry Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, October 20 at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes.
