Biographical Notes:

Hattie Elisha Bull married Charles A. Allen in Chetopa, Labette County, Kansas, on April 29, 1880.

Charles and Hattie are shown with 2 children in the 1885 census—the oldest is Mark Allen, and the youngest is Freddie Allen. Charles was a laborer and a miner.

After the death of Charles, Hattie moved in October of 1889 to Carthage, Missouri with her family of children: Mark, Fred, and Frank.

Hattie married a second time to William G. Allen, also from Pennsylvania, on August 21, 1894, in Carthage.

In the 1900 census, when they were living in Jasper County, Missouri, Hattie’s son Frank is shown as being born in April 1886.

William and Hattie had several children together: Vira, Vera, Nettie, and Nellie [Taylor].

William G. Allen Dies.

Carthage, Mo., May 15.—William Grant Allen, 76 years old, a retired stonemason, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at McCune-Brooks hospital, where he had been a patient since Friday. Death was due to a complication of ailments.

Mr. Allen, had been in ill health two years. He had lived in Carthage many years. He had been making his home at the Carthage hotel.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Claude B. Taylor of Carthage and Mrs. Vera Latane (sic) [Latham] and Mrs. Vira Hefley, both of Kansas City; two sons, Mark Allen of Nevada and Fred Allen of Joplin; a brother, C. Allen of Mercer, Pa., and six grandchildren.

The body will be taken to Galena, Kan., for burial.

Carthage, Mo., May 16.—Funeral services for William G. Allen, who died yesterday (sic), were held this afternoon at the Ulmer funeral home, with the Rev. E. E. Mace of the First Presbyterian church in charge. Burial was in the cemetery at Galena.

Carthage Mo., Oct. 19.—Funeral services for Mrs. Glenn Havens, 35 years old, formerly of Carthage, who died at 3:15 o'clock this morning in General hospital at Kansas City, where she had been a patient for a week, will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Ulmer funeral home. Burial will be in Park cemetery.

The body was brought here this afternoon from Kansas City. Mrs. Havens' death was due to double pneumonia. She had been ill two weeks. She was born June 11, 1900, on a farm southwest of Carthage and was married June 17, 1922, to E. Glenn Havens, who survives. She was a member of the First Methodist church here and of Eminence chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. and Mrs. Havens left here four years ago, going to St. Joseph and later Kansas City.

Surviving, besides her husband, are two children, Harriette Virginia, 12, and Robert Glenn, 10; her father, William G. Allen of Carthage; three sisters, Mrs. Vera Latham and Mrs. Vira Brown Kansas City and Mrs. Claud Taylor of Carthage; two brothers, Mark Allen of Nevada and Fred Allen of Joplin, and her father-in-law, W. S. Havens of Carthage.

Carthage, Mo., Oct. 21.—Funeral services for Mrs. Glenn Havens, 85 years old, formerly of Carthage, who died Saturday at General hospital at Kansas City, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Ulmer funeral home. Burial will be in Park cemetery. Mrs. Havens' body was brought here Saturday afternoon.

She and her husband left here four years ago, going to St. Joseph, Mo., and later to Kansas City. She was a member of the First Methodist church here and of the Carthage chapter, O. E. S.

Surviving, besides her husband, are two children, Harriette Virginia, 12, and Robert Glenn, 10; her father, William G. Allen of Carthage; three sisters, Mrs. Vera Latham and Mrs. Vira Brown of Kansas City and Mrs. Claud Taylor of Carthage, and two brothers, Mark Allen of Nevada and Fred Allen of Joplin.
