Son of Howard and Anna Pearl Dibble. Married (later divorced) Violet O. Dibble.

Preston joined the Army in 1938 after graduating high school. He was stationed in San Diego until his departure to WWII where he served in Europe. After the military, Preston ended his working career after retiring as a billposter from Markham Industries in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, golf and poker.

He served in WWII with the 455th AAA Bn., Battery 'D', gun crew #1. He was shown as 5 ft. , 10 in. tall, weighing 160 lbs. He had blue eyes, brown hair and a 'light brown' complexion. His unit spent 10 months in England, guarding airfields and supply depots. After going to France in July 1944, they became part of XX Corps of Patton's Third Army in the 'race across France' and into Germany and Austria.
