NOTES of relative G. O. Todd:
ELIZABETH "Betsy" GRICE was forced to bury all of her children (except Willis C. Grice), plus her husband in AL between 1860 and 1870. At the end of this period, she was left with one son who'd resettled in Milam County, TX. Further, she'd been given the responsibilityof parenting her four orphaned granddaughters (Thomas girls). Her father JOSIAH was dead, her closest brother WILLOUGHBY was dead, and her mother ZILPHA THOMAS would be dead within one year. Elizabeth lived near all of Willoughby's descendants who had survived the war, and she received mail urging her to join those Todds and move to TX to join her son. At age 57, she undertook this cross-country migration and had to leave all her household goods behind and take only one trunk. In Texas, she lived near Thrall some 25 years.
