Elizabeth followed her husband to South Carolina during the Civil War. Remained there until they removed for two years to Kansas and Colorado. After which they moved permanently to Washington D.C.
Served actively as president of the Women's Auxillary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Washington D.C. President emeritus of the Auxillary at the time of her death.
She died at her home of chronic arteriosclerosis. Burial was 3 Nov 1927 at the Thompson Memorial Church.
