This memorial is a cenotaph. Orginal burial is located in
Mount Carmel Cemetery

This memorial is dedicated to my grandmother, whom we called Mamo. She lived ninety-nine years and twenty-one days.
She told me many times that she wanted to live as long as her granddaddy J.P., she outlived him by nine years.
My grandmother made medical history when she was about eighteen years old, she was one of the few survivors of an appendectomy. She had long brown hair and because she was so sick and bed ridden, she wasn't able to comb her hair and eventually the nurses had to cut it off. She loved having short hair, the only time she grew her hair was in the 70's. She had a short ponytail so that she could wear a bee hive hairdo.
During World War II she worked at a defense plant, she rode a bus and it took her nearly an hour to reach the plant and of course an hour to get home at night. Her job was to put the bullet pellets in the shell, she told me that the ladies all had long finger nails and that they would use a finger nail to put the pellets in the shell.
After the war, she worked in the school cafeteria.
She told me of the hard times during the depression, the loss of her oldest daughter at sixteen months.
Mamo had six brothers and two sisters.
Allen, Otho, Alice, Eurie, Wallace, Tuck, Mary Edna, and J.P.
she outlived them all.
She was much loved by her family and is still very much missed.

Being Our Mother, Grandmother, and
Great Grandmother
Thank you for being
The special person that you are
And Thank you for the endless Love
That has stretched so far
Thank you for the Love and Care
That we have known
And I Thank you for our Mothers
Through them your love has shown
Thank you is not enough
But yet, We say this, quite true
Thank you most especially
For being our Mother, Grandmother and
Great Grandmother, for being you

After her death this Prayer was found in her Bible
Let my dark hours be dark for me alone,
Nor shadow other lives that I hold dear,
Let me in laughter cloak each useless moan,
And make my little world of cheer
Teach me to turn my every hurt and pain
Into white blooms of tenderness for Thee
Teach me to make each earthly loss a gain,
And when I fail, be patient, Lord, with me.
