Kevin McKenzie, or “coach” as just about everyone in Greenfield knew him, did a little bit of everything, including coaching, and even driving a bus.

“He loved his students,” said former student Chris Kemp. "He loved driving the bus for everyone, especially for all the sports.

The comments being left on Facebook echo Kemp’s thoughts, and tell of a man who was a big part of this community. He will be missed by many in the small town.

“School is not gonna be the same without him,” said Kemp.

Coach left an impression on his students, one that Kemp remembers fondly.

“He’s seen me struggle here and there," said Kemp. "He just helped me keep my head up and was always there for me whenever I needed him, so, he always put a smile on my face.”

An announcement about Coach McKenzie’s death on Greenfield Wildcats Paw Partners Facebook page describes him best: Kevin had many titles in his life, but those that gave him the most joy were husband, dad, and grandpa. The full message can be seen below.

The Greenfield Wildcats Paw Partners shared the following message on their Facebook page Sunday:

“It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news that Coach McKenzie passed away today from Covid related complications. Kevin had a bigger than life personality. When Kevin was in the building everyone knew it. He cared deeply about his students and players. He enjoyed winning but most of all he enjoyed seeing his students and players as successful and good adults. Kevin had many titles in his life but those that gave him the most joy were husband, Dad and Grandpa.”
