Justin Sharp, loving son, grandson, nephew and friend, died in an accident on September 13, 2007 near the UCSB east gate, when a drunk driver made an illegal U-turn in front of his motorcycle. Justin was born June 13, 1982, in San Luis Obispo, the only son of Barbara Sharp. Growing up in Santa Barbara, he was active in scouting and many sports. He graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in the class of 2000, and attended Santa Barbara City College.

To all who knew him, Justin was a kind and caring person. He missed the end of his senior year in high school so that he could care for his grandmother, Mary Virginia Sharp, and from October 2004 until his grandfather's passing in October 2006, he lived with and cared full time for his grandfather, DeWayne Byrle Sharp. No grandson ever showed more love and devotion.

On the day his grandfather died, Justin was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, and during the past year he bravely fought the disease. At the time of his death he was nearing the completion of his treatment and looking forward to racing in the Baja 1000.

Justin was an adventurous young man and a great traveler, having visited three continents in his short life. By the time he had reached his first birthday he had traveled coast to coast through nearly half the states, including a camping trip through the western United States and Canada when he was just 8 weeks old. In the fall of 2004 he embarked on a month long solo survival trek into the Northern California wilderness without bringing food or water.

While there are many tales to tell, his defining adventure came in the summer of 2006 when he rode his motorcycle on a solo journey from Santa Barbara to visit his Aunt's family in Costa Rica, Central America. Along the way he again showed his caring side when he risked his life to pull a ten year old boy from a riptide along the coast of Mexico.

Justin is survived by his mother, Barbara Sharp; his Aunt, Jo Ann Rogers; his Uncle, Mike Sharp; and cousins, Sean Rogers, Garrison Sharp and Madeline Sharp. He has hundreds of friends around the world, and we will all miss him forever.

Graveside service will be at the Cayucos Cemetery on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
