Colonel William John Follmer, Sr. husband of Shirley Ann (Mefferd) Follmer, father of 6, grandfather of 9, great-grandfather of 5. Veteran of Korean War and 3 tours of Vietnam. He was a fighter pilot.

1951-1952- worked at Iowa Manufacturing operating a crane for $1.18 per hour. 1952-1954 sacked potatoes during college. He averaged $3 - 4 per hour. He had to sack 16 - 100 lb. bags and hour. This is about 25 cents for a 100 lb. bag!

Dad sang with his family in their church. He played the trumpet, piano and organ. He was in the concert and marching bands while in ROTC.

Dad had a photo and article in the book - "Red River Rats" by Turner Publishing Co., 412 Broadway Rd., Paducah, KY 42001 phone - 800-788-3350


William "Bill" Follmer, 74, of Mesa, AZ, passed away Aug. 8, 2007. Bill was a retired Colonel of the U.S. Air Force. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 15 at 10:00 am, with viewing at 9:00 am, at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe. Interment, will full military honors, will follow at 12:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix.
