He loved the river and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He formerly was a member of the Moose Lodge. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a brakeman.
Joe is survived by his three children, Joe Lowell Armstrong II (Tara) of Cromwell, KY, Michael "Todd" Armstrong (Kara) of Mt. Olympus and Traci Marie Scales (William Randall Scales) of Petersburg; 6 grandchildren, Garrett, Shaila, Tyler, Brennon, Tristen and Zane; 12 great grandchildren; 4 siblings, Marlene Loveless (Bob) of Princeton, Leland Armstrong of Mt. Olympus, Ann Donaldson (Lee) of Monroe City, IN and Lisa Brewer (Gene) of Mt. Carmel, IL; and his companion, Lorene Terry of Union.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Armstrong.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus, with Donnie Truelock officiating. Interment will follow. There will be no visitation.
