NICOLAS' OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran

Nicolas Romero Gonzalez, born on September 3rd 1929, went to be with the Lord on October 9th 2020, at the age of 91.

Nicolas was the son of migrant workers who settled in San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on his 17th birthday. He served with the 2nd Armored Division as a light weapons infantryman at Camp Hood, later known as Fort Hood. In the same city, he later met and married Consuelo Gonzales, his wife of 61 years.

He worked as a maintenance engineer at San Antonio College, where he was well-liked and admired for his work ethic. At his retirement, he was presented with an honorary degree by the dean of the college. His most notable attribute was his compassion for others; exemplified by his weekly care package deliveries to various families in need within the community.

Nicolas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quirino and Benita Gonzalez, his wife Consuelo Corrales, his brothers Salvador, Frank, Quirino Jr, Theodore, sisters Cristina, Maria, and Cecilia and his daughter-in-law Helen Gonzalez.

He is survived by his brother and his four children; his eight grandchildren; and his two great grandchildren.

Rosary will be held on Sunday October 25th at 6 p.m. at the Angelus Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday October 26th at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery #2.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to either Alzheimer's Association or Meals on Wheels, would be appreciated.
