She was called home to rest on Wednesday October 14, 2020.
Carrie attended the public schools of Florence County, South Carolina and graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1946. She furthered her education by attending Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina majoring in Home Economics, 1946-47.
She was married to her husband Arthur Ben Sanders on March 04, 1947, and enjoyed a life of 18 years traveling abroad and home as an Air Force wife and family both in Landstew and Bremehaven, Germany; London, England; Mayersville and Crescent City, California; and Sumter, South Carolina.
After returning home to Florence, South Carolina; Mrs. Carrie enrolled and completed her Cosmetology License at the Garner School of Beauty Culture, 1968; serving in private practice for over 30 years; while also working at Electric Motive as an Asst. Supervisor, 1962-67, and at Head Start as a Home Economist, 1968-72. In addition, she obtained her Nursing Assistant Certification from Florence Darlington Technical College, 1982.
She loved her grands and great-grands throughout the aging process and was known to have an encouraging word for her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing and hunting which she learned from her father at an early age; and could still be seen fishing at the age of 94 on the river and ocean shores. As a Home Economist, she enjoyed entertaining and always was an exceptional cook and avid gardener, sharing her preserves and harvest with others. As a seamstress, she made many a fine garment, skills she lovingly passed on to her children.
Carrie was a life-long member of Trinity Baptist Church, Florence, South Carolina; American Legion Auxiliary #248; United Order of Tent, Southern District #4; OES Hiram Chapter #181; and Wilson High Alumni class of 1946.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Technical Sergeant Retired Arthur Ben Sanders, Sr.; her two sisters Mary Loreatha Gaynor and Willie Mae Hennigan; and two children Zeitamarie S. Cobb and Arthur Ben Sanders, Jr.
