Barbara Ellen Newkirk, of Vallonia, entered into eternal rest at her home on the morning of October 15, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old.

Barbara entered this life on March 19, 1952 in Bedford, Indiana. She was the fourth born to the loving parents of Oliver “Pick” and Beulah (Pipher) Chastain. On August 29, 1967 she married Johnny Gregg and from this union she was blessed with daughters, Cathy and Sherry. Johnny preceded her on September 20, 1981.

Barbara found love again when she decided to go on a blind double date with her sister and she met and later married David Newkirk on July 2, 1996 in Las Vegas, NV.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Mamaw. Barbara was a member of the Medora Methodist Church. She retired from Whitney Tool in 2015 after working there for over 25 years.

Barbara loved and cherished her family and all the travel and shopping adventures that they would go on. She was part of a group called the “Happy Travelers” with her close friends.

She leaves a legacy of love with her husband of 24 years, David Newkirk of Vallonia, daughters, Cathy McKinney and companion Steve Bloom of Medora, Sherry Traub and her husband Travis of Medora, six grandchildren, Johnny McKinney and his wife Missy of Vallonia, Josh McKinney of Medora, Lexi McKinney and her husband Blade of Uniontown, Gwyneth Morris of Medora, TJ and Trent Traub of Seymour, three great-grandchildren, Sutter McKinney of Brownstown, Brantley McKinney of Vallonia, and Emma McKinney of Vallonia, two brothers Duane Chastain of Williams, and Gary Dean Mills of Trinity, three sisters, Debra Davis and her husband Kym of Medora, Jeannette Kessinger of Bedford, and Linda Lewellen of Michigan, and one aunt Sue Beville of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Medora Methodist Church on Monday October 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lennie Lawrence officiating. Burial will be at the Zollman Cemetery of Medora.

Friends may visit at the Medora Methodist Church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Memorials may be written in Barbara’s name to the Zollman Cemetery or to the Medora Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hague & Zabel Funeral Home of Medora.
