At 13 years old, older sister Elsie and the Hogle children did their Patriotic Duty and joined the Red Cross of Mt. Vernon, OH. The Family was very poor, and the Red Cross letter thanks them for their sacrifice. Also, a letter came form a WWI Soldier stationed in France, a friend of the Family - who read the children's story in the newspaper overseas. The original letter is here as a testimonial. 1918
