The mother of Joyce Cowden Blume must have been hoping for a daughter to be born, since she named her only son, Joyce Cowden Blume.

Being a guy myself, I can understand how much Joyce must have hated to have a woman's first name.

I can only imagine the teasing that he must have gone through by the other boys that he grew up with.

It reminds me of that Johnny Cash song, "A Boy Named Sue".

I have found records for Joyce Cowden Blume where he only used his first name initial of "J" and then later in his life he started saying that his first name was "Jack".

EDWARDSVILLE - J. Cowden "Jack" Blume, 73, died at 3:23 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1987, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville [Madison County, Illinois].

Retired from American Oil Co., he was born in Edwardsville [Madison County, Illinois], a son of the late Charles and Lenora (Cowden) Blume.

On Feb. 8, 1940, In Houston, Texas, he married the former Vivian Lannae. She died July 6, 1986.

There will be no visitation.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday [December 16, 1987] at Sunset Hill Mausoleum in Edwardsville [Madison County, Illinois] with the Rev. Brad Kent officiating.

Entombment will be in Sunset Hill Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville [Madison County, Illinois].

Pletcher Funeral Home of Edwardsville [Madison County, Illinois] is in charge of arrangements.
