Steven Thomas Stanley, 71, of Springfield died on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 16, 1948 in Springfield, IL to Gilbert M. and Margaret V. (Merrick) Stanley. He married Judith Johnson on October 10, 1980.
Steven is survived by his wife, Judith of Springfield; two daughters, Shawn (boyfriend Terry) Stanley and Stephanie (fiancé Joseph Pope) Stanley, both of Springfield; two grandsons, Steven Tuning and Matthew Stanley; two sisters, Sandra Stanley-Harvey and Brenda Stanley-Willett, both of Springfield; one brother, Gary (Ruth Ann) Stanley of Glenarm, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son, Matthew Tuning.
Steven was been a resident of Springfield all of his life and grew up on the northeast-end of town. He graduated from Lanphier High School.
He joined the United States Navy in 1968 and served two tours of duty during Vietnam. During his time in the Navy, he was a welder and a fitter. He also stood security watch throughout the ship and was number one O.B.A. during damage control exercise.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Steven was employed by IBEW Local #193 as a groundmen truck driver while waiting to be accepted into their apprenticeship program. He worked as a journey man wireman for Local #193, retiring after 37 years of service.
