Born September 7, 1928, in Oakland, he was the son of the late John Warden and Elsie Bernice (Denning) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Smith; one brother, Carlton Albert “Bud” Smith, and his infant son.
Clayton retired from Garrett County Roads Department as an assistant engineer. He then worked for Snyder’s Cabinets. Clayton loved woodworking and taking his grandkids to Big Bear Lake.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Butler, Mt. Lake Park, MD; Linda Kourey and husband, William, Deer Park, MD; two sisters, Thelma Stewart, Oakland; Rebecca Walter and husband, Fred, Salisbury, MD; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, 21550, on Monday, October 19, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Services will be held following visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Samuel Moon officiating.
