Loretta Joy Parker, 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on October 15, 2020, due to complications from diabetes, congestive heart failure, and most recently, COVID-19. Loretta was born on May 27, 1945, in Winner, SD, to Jesse and Gladys Davey. She was welcomed by siblings Betty, MaryEllen, Clifford and Tom, in Colome, SD. During her childhood, she lived in various places in the Midwest.

At the age of 16, she married Veryl Sandine and together they welcomed their 4 children. They were married for 16 years.

On October 6, 1979, Loretta married the love of her life, Norman Parker, in Wasta, SD. She welcomed Norman’s six children to the family. In February of 1982, they moved to her current residence on Radar Hill in Rapid City, where she lived out the remainder of her life. There, she and Norman started the NLP Mini Ranch and raised chickens, ducks, geese, goats, horses, dogs and many cats.

In 1983, she and Norman made the decision to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This decision impacted her life and continues to impact her family through multiple generations. With Christ as the forefront of her life, she proudly served at many churches as a Sunday School teacher, piano player, and Vacation Bible School volunteer. Emmanuel Baptist Church was started in her living room and is still an active church in Box Elder, SD.

In the late 1980’s, Loretta became a grandma, which has been one of her greatest joys in life. One of her favorite pastimes was camping with Norman at Sheridan Lake in their little topper. She and Norman also enjoyed traveling to visit family in Utah and Georgia. In November of 2000, she said goodbye to her beloved Norman. After his passing, she remained active in God’s work, serving in various positions in her church. Family gatherings and potlucks brought her much joy. In 2012, she lost the father of her four children. Over the years, they had become great friends. In 2017, Loretta was fortunate enough to go on her last vacation, an Alaskan cruise. In her final years, she enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.
