John Michael Jacobs, 76 years, peacefully died at Brian’s House in Essexville, Michigan on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. He was born December 21, 1943 to the late Frances and Bertha (Westfall) Jacobs in Saginaw, Michigan. John graduated from St. Andrew High School in Saginaw in 1962 and subsequently served his country in the U.S. Navy from which he was honorably discharged in 1964. He married the former Karen Jean Scheib on October 2, 1965; they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary and she survives him. John was a long-time member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saginaw. In 1971 he and Karen moved to Bay City, Michigan.

In addition to Karen, John is survived by their three sons: Drs. Michael and Alissa Jacobs of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Patrick and Dr. Karla Jacobs of Winter Park, Florida, Dr. Timothy and Mary Beth Jacobs of College Station, Texas; seven grandchildren: Ella and Ava Jacobs; Joseph, John, and Lillian Jacobs; Gia and Kai Jacobs; two sisters: Betty Shreve and Ann Ruppel; his aunt-in-law, Eleanor Baker; brother-in-law: Robert (Diane) Scheib; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Marie Jacobs; brothers-in-law: Darwin Shreve and Henry Ruppel, and nephew, Matthew Ruppel.

John and Karen founded John M. Jacobs Plumbing and Heating, Inc in 1973. John served the Tri-City area as a master plumber for 47 years, retiring on June 3, 2020. During his career, he: received “Contractor of the Year” award in 2003 by the Michigan Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association, served on the State of Michigan Plumbing Board of Directors as appointed by the governor of the State of Michigan, and participated in and led several local plumbing contractor associations and union contract bargaining groups. John was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish (previously St. Maria Goretti Church) for 49 years, the K of C Council #4232, U.A. Local Union #85, the former Bay City Country Club where he golfed in the Tuesday Night League, and the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 11:00 am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish – St. Andrew Site, 612 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw 48602. Reverend Patrick C. O’Connor and Reverend James Wm. Bessert will concelebrate with Rite of Committal and military rites following in St. Andrew Cemetery, Saginaw. Visiting hours with the family will be Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel in Bay City, and on Wednesday in the church after 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated for All Saints School, St. Catherine of Siena Parish, or Brian’s House.
