ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Jan Marie Mick, 43, died of breast cancer at her Anchorage home on Jan. 14, 2006, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Mick was born in Hastings on Jan. 17, 1962. She graduated from McCook High School in 1980. She received a master's in education from Kearney State College in Kearney. In 1989, she moved to Alaska where she worked as a school teacher at Anchor Lutheran School until 1992. She later taught with the Anchorage School District at Nunaka Valley, from 1992 until 2005. During the summer she worked as a driver for Royal Celebrity Tours.
She was a member of Anchorage Lutheran Church, Anchorage Snowmobile Club and Last Frontier Motorcycle Group. She was nominated several times for Teacher of the Year. She enjoyed camping, riding snow machines and motorcycles with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed bowling with her friends on the teachers' leagues, waterskiing and parasailing.
Her family wrote, "Jan was known for her infectious smile and her 'can do' attitude."
